Duke GlobeMed held its very first fundraiser by selling Chick-Fil-A before the football game. The event was a success; it raised $495.62 for the Shirati Health Education and Development Foundation in Tanzania! Not only were we able to raise money for our partner but also spread awareness about SHED and its efforts, such as fighting schistosomiasis, and GlobeMed at Duke.
Retreat
On Sunday, October 15th, GlobeMed members went to Eno Park to spend the afternoon together! It was a great opportunity for all the members and officers to build strong relationships, as the day consisted of food, games and more fun! There was also a power walk that opened our eyes to the privileges that we have and to the diversity of our backgrounds. Members shared that the retreat was a great way to destress after their hectic week and be able to spend some time outside in the fresh air.

Eminence Conference
On Friday, November 10th through Saturday the 11th, GlobeMed at Duke participated once again in the Eminence Public Health Conference, held this year at UNC Chapel Hill. Eminence is an annual event for where southeastern GlobeMed organizations meet one another, work together to discuss public and global health issues, and as exchange organizational and fundraising ideas! This year six members from Duke joined groups from NC State, University of South Carolina, and UNC at the conference, and together students participated in talks from public health professionals on topics ranging from sexual health to nutrition, met with past GlobeMed members to discuss how GlobeMed impacted their lives, and discussed challenges they had faced themselves pertaining to Global Health and privilege. All in all, it was a great weekend spent growing and learning together!
Cozy for a Cause
On the evening of December 1st, GlobeMed members and others from the Duke community gathered in Keohane Atrium to enjoy hot drinks, food, student performers and good company. This event, "Cozy for a Cause," included entertainment featuring Lady Blue, Inside Joke, Rhythm and Blue and more. While admission was free, food and beverages were purchased, and all proceeds went to GlobeMed's partner organization, the Shirati Health, Education and Development (SHED) Foundation in Tanzania. The event not only helped raise a considerable amount of donations for SHED, but also helped students relax and spend an evening of fun and laughter with some old and new friends!
