GROW

The Grassroots On-site Work (GROW) internship aims to strengthen the relationship between students and their grassroots partner organizations. Every year, 3-5 students from each chapter intern on the ground for 3-8 weeks with their partner organization. With over 260 students nationwide participating since 2007, GROW has had profound impact on the development of the relationship between GlobeMed chapters and their community partners.
GROW has three goals*:

1. To strengthen and expand the programs, resources, and knowledge of partner organizations to increase their
capacity for impact.
2. To engage in mutual learning to strengthen all aspects of the partnership.
3. To evaluate progress and plan for the year ahead in order to support long-term stability of the partnership.
Preview of GROW 2019

"Global Health Network Uganda (GHNU) adopts a holistic approach to improving maternal and child health in the Oyam District. Last summer, the team worked on different health initiatives including home visits to qualitatively assess hygiene and sanitation facilities such as latrines, hand-washing stations and trash pits. We also worked on education initiatives with primary schools students, touching base on topics like nutrition and menstrual health. Throughout the summer, we visited MCH groups across six villages and delivered MAAMA kits to pregnant mothers."

The GROW team for summer 2019 expects to participate in many of these same ongoing initiatives as well as a week-long soccer camp for primary and secondary school students hosted by GHNU and partner University of Southern California.
